Peach Garden Changi Airport Terminal 2
Embarking on an extended trip and foreseeing that you'll miss a proper Chinese meal? Well fret not! Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant has opened at Changi Airport Terminal 2 and you can enjoy a full Chinese meal (or banquet if you must) before your flight.
The contemporary restaurant seats 180 diners, with three private rooms, perfect for that business lunch or a raucous family gathering. Pick from the a la carte dishes for individuals or communal dining, or go with the easy set lunches/dinners starting from $44/pax.
Start with the Roasted Pork Cube ($12.80/por) with a crispy TOP and nice firm meat. The char siew ($11.80/por) is the salty bean-ish sort with a balanced sweetness and light sticky char. I enjoyed the solid meat texture but my dining companions thought the meat could be more juicy. Well, our meat craving was certainly satisfied with the Traditional Roasted London Duck ($35.80/$68) which is a must order in our opinion. The succulent meat was well marinated with Chinese spices and that thin crispy skin with a thin layer of rendered fats.. GLORIOUS. I would pay $18.80 for a small portion of this even if I were to dine alone.
For lunch, you can also enjoy the dim sum selection and we had the X.O. Carrot Cake, which has a slightly more dense kueh-ish texture. It was decent but I simply can't stop thinking the stellar version at Full of Luck Club.
Another snack to start the meal with is the Eggplant with Pork Floss. We enjoyed the light crunchy batter with garlic bits and lots of pork floss.
Add some silky texture to your meal with the Braised Homemade Beancurd with Local
Spinach and Crabmeat Sauce ($18/3 pieces of tofu). It's a little bland for me but we can't fault the smooth tofu.
I wasn't impressed with the 2 soups we had. The Double-boiled Shark's Bone Cartilage Soup ($26.80/pax) with Bamboo Pith, Dried scallop, and fish maw was too starchy for me and it had an oily aftertaste. The Double-boiled Assorted Seafood Soup in Golden Melon ($16.80/pax) may be a more wholesome option but there wasn't anything special about it.
We had the Crisp-Fried Prawns in Pumpkin cream but on hindsight, the salted egg yolk or wasabi cream version would be a nicer complement to the lightly battered huge prawns.

For carbs, skip the bland Crab Meat Fried Rice and go with the Stewed Fish Paste Noodles with Half Baby Lobster in X.O. Sauce ($29.80/pax). We enjoyed the slightly poofy noodles and that perfectly poached, battered and fried sweet lobster.
On to desserts and we have a 3 in 1 bun that is the Sweet Potato Style Baked Salted Egg Custard Bun.
What's great about this is the perfect sauce to bun ratio. I liked how the exterior was crispy and crunchy, but there's still a thin layer of fluffy bun between that purple skin and saucy salted egg yolk sauce. The salted lava was a tad sweet for me and it could do with more salted egg yolk flavor to balance the flavor.
Go with the Chilled Desserts really. I loved the refreshing Chilled Jelly Royale with Julienne of Coconut ($5/pax or $8/coconut). For something richer, the Chilled Black Glutinous Rice with ice cream would please anyone with a sweet tooth.
Make sure you make some time for a preflight meal at Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant at Changi Airport Terminal 2. If not, at least grab some quick bites at their Hot Corner where you can takeaway hot snacks like Char Siew Pastry, Custard Bun, Egg Tarts and more. There are other traditional and seasonal goodies which make for perfect gifts as well.
